Meet Amy in New York!
"This experience has helped me grow both personally and professionally."
Why did you choose to go abroad?
I chose to go abroad because I wanted to challenge myself professionally and personally. I wanted to gain
international work experience, improve my skills, and learn from a different business environment.
Working in the U.S. has helped me grow as an accounting professional, strengthened my communication
skills, and prepare for my long-term career goals while creating better opportunities for my family.
How does the US culture differ from your culture and what has impressed you most so far?
One of the biggest differences between U.S. culture and Mongolian culture is the emphasis on
individualism and direct communication. In the United States, people are encouraged to express their
opinions, be independent, and communicate openly. In Mongolia, relationships, respect for elders, and
community are often given greater importance, and people may communicate more indirectly in certain
situations. Another difference is the workplace culture. In the U.S., teamwork, professionalism, punctuality, and
taking initiative are highly valued. Employees are encouraged to ask questions, share ideas, and solve
problems independently, which has helped me become more confident in my work. What has impressed me the most is the diversity of the United States. I have met people from many different countries, cultures, and backgrounds, and everyone has the opportunity to contribute regardless of where they come from. I have also been impressed by how organized many workplaces are and how much emphasis is placed on efficiency, respect for time, and continuous learning. Living in the U.S. has broadened my perspective, improved my communication skills, and helped me grow both personally and professionally.
Could you take us for a day in your life? What is your routine?
A typical day starts with breakfast and getting ready for work. I spend the day working on accounting and
auditing tasks and collaborating with my team. After work, I usually go to the gym or take a walk, have
dinner, and spend some time studying or relaxing before going to bed.
How has this experience abroad helped you to grow personally?
This experience has helped me grow both personally and professionally. I have become more independent, more confident, and better at communicating with people from different cultures. It has also taught me to adapt to new situations, solve problems on my own, and appreciate different perspectives.
Why would you recommend others to do a program abroad?
I would recommend the J-1 Specialist Program because it offers valuable international work experience,
professional growth, and the chance to learn about American culture while developing new skills.
If you could express your experience in three words, what would these be?
Inspiring. Educational. Unforgettable
