Meet Claudia in Key Largo

"I think leaving your country to take advantage of training opportunities like these programs is the only way you can open your mind to new knowledge, discover new places, and learn to understand who you are to face any situation."
Why did you choose to go abroad?
Because I think leaving your country to take advantage of training opportunities like these programs is the only way you can open your mind to new knowledge, discover new places, and learn to understand who you are to face any situation.
How does the US culture differ from your culture and what has impressed you most so far?
Our cultures are very different. Being in Key Largo allows me to experience a culture where people love fishing and ocean activities, which I love being able to share with them. I love the seafood here and being able to go out with my friends to play pool and then go to the beach. What impresses me is that being in Key Largo, life is very quiet, but when I go to Miami, everything changes completely, and it's less than two hours away. I like to go to Miami to relax and get away from the routine. It's a crazy but beautiful city, with lots of things to do.
Could you take us for a day? What are your routines?
I have a very varied routine. Working in the hospitality industry, my schedule varies weekly. I usually keep busy by going to the gym and then going to work. On my days off, I take advantage of the opportunity to do activities at the sea or go out to play volleyball with my friends. I also like to go to Miami and go to new places or restaurants. I always try going to the pool or the beach; I really enjoy those activities.
How has this experience abroad helped you to grow personally?
When I arrived, I was afraid I wouldn't be able to deal with people because I worked in a hotel. Over time, and thanks to the guidance of my managers, I've been able to solve problems instantly, learn to listen to find a solution, and stay calm in difficult situations. This has helped me put this into practice in my daily life and gain more self-confidence. My English has also improved a lot, and I'm learning more and more about managing the system program as working in a resort.
Why would you recommend others to do a program abroad?
Because this way, you'll be able to have unique experiences. It will help you grow both professionally and personally. You'll have more memories to accumulate and carry with you forever. Connecting with more cultures helps you better understand people and how everything works.
If you could express your experience in three words, what would these be?
Confidence, strength, and patience. Confidence in myself to be able to have a solution; strength to be able to move forward despite all the difficulties that arise when being away from home and alone, and patience to be able to understand that with time you can achieve many things.
